Reflexology & Foot Massage
There are many theories as to how reflexology works, but in our approach we look to the nervous system as the explanation of reflexology’s working. Pressure applied to the feet generates a signal through the peripheral nervous system.
From there, it enters the central nervous system where it is processed in various parts of the brain. It is then relayed to the internal organs to allocate the necessary adjustments in fuel and oxygen.
Finally, a response is fashioned that is sent onto the motor system. This message is fed forward to adjust the body’s tone or overall tension level. If applied properly, the tone will reset itself to a lower operating tempo. A lower operating tempo means a lessening of stress and less wear and tear on the body’s systems.
How Does Reflexology Work?
Specific points on the feet, hands and ears are supposed to be linked to various organs in the body. Foot reflexology is one of the methods of doing reflexology. Each organ system has nerve endings in the feet, hands and ears. The organ system is also called a zone and hence the therapy “zone therapy”. Thus the state of the anatomy of the body is seen as reflex zones on the feet. These can be stimulated for their proper functioning of the organ system.
In case of some disease or illness there is an imbalance of energy in the organ system. By applying pressure manually with your thumb/finger at the specific area meant for a specific organ system you are triggering a response. The organ system now tends to come to a harmonious state and naturally healing processes set in removing the underlying issues with the organ system. This action of applying stimulus is called Reflexology.
The Benefits of Reflexology
The benefits of Reflexology address holistic health as well as addressing of individual organ systems. Some of the benefits are listed below.
Rebuild nervous system – As we age our nerves get less sensitive especially the ones at the body extremities. You could enhance the sensitivity by doing reflexology. During reflexology, nearly around 7000 nerve endings can be stimulated in a single session. This helps in increased sensitivity of the nerves and proper functioning of the nervous system. Any blocks in the neural system can also be removed.
